DISCOVER WIM SPAEPEN

BIOGRAPHY

Wim Spaepen started to play violin at the age of six with Maurits Goossens.

Wim pursued his studies at the Lemmensinstituut Otto Derolez and in Valencia at the Negri Violin School with Lord Yehudi Menuhin as honorary chairman. In support of this opportunity, he obtained a grant from service club Rotary.

Over the course of his studies, Wim attended several masterclasses with some of the foremost violinists of the classical scene today.  At encounters throughout Europe, he played before Miguel Negri, Kati Sebestyen, Ervin Schiffer, Eduard Schmieder, Corrado Bolsi, Johannes Leertouwer and Midori Seiler.

From 2008 to 2017, Wim was the concertmaster of Frascati Symphonic (Leuven). Until 2014, he combined his work as concertmaster with his position of first violin at the Magogo Chamber Orchestra (Tilburg).

Wim released, together with pianist Frederik Martens, his first album Sweet Memories in 2015. The album is a unique mix of notable romantic and Belgian compositions. Recently, Wim released his second album La Bachisiana.

At the start of 2017, Wim founded the Ataneres Ensemble. In a capacity of both concertmaster and artistic director, Wim leads a group of young and ambitious high-level musicians.  Beside the classical string repertoire, the ensemble focuses on original combinations across various music and art genres.
